Due Wednesday 9/3 - List the ten BEST movies you have seen, though not necessarily your favorites. Choose one movie and explain what makes it such a good movie. Be as descriptive as possible.

Due Friday 9/5 - Write one page (250 words): "What do movies mean to me?"

Due Wednesday 9/10 - Read Plato's "Myth of the Cave" scene from The Republic and draw a picture of the layout of the cave an its immediate surroundings that Plato describes.

Due Wednesday 9/10 - Quiz on the cinematography reading.

Due Thursday 9/11 - Having read the piece on Bloody Sunday in Irish history, how would you make a movie around that topic? What would it look like? Who would you use for main characters?

Due Wednesday 9/17 - In your own words, summarize Barack Obama's and John McCain's basic positions on each of the following issues:
Energy, taxation, abortion, Iraq & Afghanistan, Iran, health care, economy, women’s issues, civil rights.

Due Friday 9/19 - Film review of Rashômon, minus the plot summary, by Akira Kurosawa.

Due Friday 9/24 - If Akira Kurosawa had made Bloody Sunday, how would it have been different? Would it have been better or worse?

Due Monday 9/29 - Watch the Obama McCain debate on Friday night (9/26). Write what you can on the following questions:
1. What was the style of each candidate? (clothes, manner of speech, body language, etc.)
2. What was your conclusion about the debate? What did you come away thinking?
3. List the three best or most telling quotes from each candidate. (You don't have to quote exactly.)
NOTE: If you do not do this debate, you must do the next one - same questions.
