The Teleportation iBox
Image that an invention is produced 10 years from now that teleports a person from spot to spot on the globe for $20, instantaneously.
The iBox is a box that one steps into with one’s clothes, luggage, etc. When the switch is thrown, the person and all of their belongings are instantaneously duplicated in any other iBox on the globe. The duplicate is checked instantly. When it is certain that the copy is perfect, the original is destroyed. The constituent atoms of the original are recycled to produce any new person or thing arriving at that iBox.
From the traveler’s point of view, they stepped into an iBox and appeared wherever they were going. The have the same thoughts, memories, personality, and everything else. The device is flawless. The destroyed original feels no pain and is not aware of its erasure.
The Teleportation iBox requires far less energy and is far less polluting than any other form of long-distance transportation.
