Due Monday 6/4 - Mao Zedong's "Little Red Book" Qs

Due Monday 6/4 - Decolonized Africa map. Use your colonial Africa map from earlier in the quarter. Fill in the names of each of the countries of modern Africa. Write the name of each country in the same color as the original nation that colonized it. Key the colors by ex-colonialist country on the map. So, "Egypt" should be written in red because Egypt was once colonized by Britain. Likewise, "Senegal" should be written in blue.

Due Wednesday 6/6 - Read the section ending on p.749. Do the IDs and questions 1-4. Question 4 will be worth 7 points, so write a long answer.

Due Friday 6/8 - Quick write: At what point would you be personally willing to explode a bomb in a cafe full of innocent civilians, women, and children. Explain.

3. What lessons does "The Battle of Algiers" have for the US as it continues to battle the insurgency in Iraq?
4. If you were a US soldier headed to Iraq, and you watched this film, what would you walk away thinking?

Due Monday 6/11 - After watching "The Battle of Algiers", answer the following question in one page: Who were the good guys? Was it Ali la Pointe, Jaffar, Colonel Mathieu, the bombers, etc.?

Due Thursday 6/14 - Research paper on post-WWII independence of Third World nations.
